SaSamba Community Band

SaSamba was established in 2012 as a community band, open to anyone with an interest in street percussion and exotic rhythms. No experience is necessary – just a sense of adventure and a love of music.

SaSamba – rehearsals, performances and instruments

All members pay a low annual fee to cover tuition, access to rehearsal space, the chance to perform and, most importantly, instruments. As a community band we do not require you to buy anything to be able to practice and play.

Decisions about the band are made by a committee elected by the members.

SaSamba music – traditional rhythms

SaSamba plays traditional rhythms such as Batucada and Samba Reggae, as well as modern sounds like Hip Hop, Funk and even Drum and Bass using core samba instruments – Surdo, Caixa, Tamborim, Repinique and Agogo bells.

Our musical director, Andy Stapleton, has more than 14 years’ experience running samba bands in the UK and Australia.
